One of our Specialty Chemical business units, Polymer Chemistry has an outstanding opportunity for a passionate, experienced professional to assume the role of Site Director in Pasadena, TX.
Job context:
Business Unit Polymer Chemistry is the largest global supplier of chemistries for the production and modification of polymers which are used in a wide range of applications including plastics, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), synthetic rubbers and many more. We are the largest global producer of organic peroxides and have a strong number two position in metal alkyls. The strong positions in both product lines and being the only player with a true global footprint provide us with a unique position of strength in our industry.
Purpose/key objective of the position:
- Site director has end responsibility for the management of all site operations including HSE, daily production and order fulfillment, plant and faculty maintenance, manufacturing cost management, site employee relations and all workforce related issues including regulation compliance, local Government Issue coordination. Develops operational action plans and implements controls which assure targets are met and business opportunities are identified, assessed and implemented within the framework of the global strategy of the business;
- Oversees one manufacturing sites and one logistics hub, managing the following functions to ensure the daily operations of the site and continuous improvement:   - Production: volume safety, quality, productivity
- Technical:  Process control, quality control and process improvement
- Purchasing: Material availability and cost
- HSE: HSE KPIs improvement plan and actions, regulation compliance
- HR: Employee relations and engagement, performance management, workforce management and training and development
- Controlling: Budget control, code of conduct compliance
- Administration: General admin management and service

- Set up and implement site management goal and KPI’s including productivity, quality, HSE
- Proposes improvement programs for production processes. Make a continuous effort to use expertise at Nouryon in relation to Technology, product and process development and optimizing of a competitive product range
- Maintains and develops expertise and know-how to control operations, by supervision on his site-organization and filling the vital functions by personnel selection, staffing and training
- Represents the interests of his region and BU both inside and outside Nouryon and builds and maintains effective contacts with neighbors, local authorities, organizations and institutes which are important for his business unit and region
- Establish and maintain an organization culture based on Nouryon value and successful factor, maintain and improve the HR management system. Lead the organization development as role model, provides an environment of high employee satisfaction and positive individual and group morale develop the organization capability including employee engagement process, leadership talent review, annual training programs, and other HR tools.

Functional network:    

- Collaborates closely with R&D and Technology in the BU in developing a common approach to drive technology improvements e.g. energy and process improvements, alternative raw material technologies and different PC technologies;
- Participates in BU manufacturing/ sustainability forums and work groups;
- Builds and maintains a network of business contacts in support of organizational objectives;
- Directs Responsible Care initiatives

Job Requirements


- Minimum 10 years’ experience in a hazardous chemicals manufacturing (preferably Organic Peroxides) role with minimum 5 years in operations management role.
- Experience with Chemical operations involving hazardous materials and potentially dangerous reactions in both manual and automated processing environments.
- Extensive experience in production in an international industrial environment
- Strong in communication / interpersonal and managerial skills. Being able to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Multi-cultural skills
- Strategic thinking; ability to drive results
- Strong leadership qualifications


- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering (preferred) or a closely related field required.  MBA preferred.
- L6S Black Belt Certification preferred.
