Within Nouryon, we are looking for a talented safety engineer to perform research on gas and dust explosions and help growing our business.

The Nouryon Polymer Chemistry business unit is the world's leading producer of organic peroxides, metal alkyls, organometallic specialties and polymer additives. These are essential ingredients for the polymer industry. We serve the entire polymer value chain, i.e. the production of thermoplastic polymers, thermosets and elastomers, as well as the processing of polymers to finished products.
Safety, sustainability and innovation are at the heart of everything we do. In addition, we maintain close partnerships with our customers. 
Nouryon Polymer Chemistry has its worldwide operating Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) center located in Deventer, the Netherlands. Here, focused project teams work to meet current and future customer needs, to invent new innovative products and develop new applications for current products. The Polymer Chemistry RD&I center in Deventer is part of a large (>300 FTE) specialty chemicals research center.

One of our RD&I groups, the Safety Testing and Modeling (STM) team, focuses on the safety of chemical products and processes. Supported by a world-class safety laboratory, this team conducts investigations to support the development of new safe processes for our global operations and safe products for our industrial customer base.
In this R&D Team, we have a vacancy for a:

The possibility to work in multi-disciplinary teams and conduct experiments in a world-class safety laboratory.
A responsible position to contribute to the safety of our global operations and further build up knowledge on:
• Gas and dust explosions
• Chemical product safety
• Development of safe chemical processes
You will closely interact with our research teams, our production operations and our technology group.

Job Requirements

Your responsibilities / requirements
• Act as focal point for gas- and dust explosions
• Provide advice on explosion prevention at our production facilities
• Plan, organize and conduct safety experiments
• Evaluate experimental data and report these, verbally as well as in writing, to various project leaders
• Conduct trainings and demonstrations in the field of explosion prevention
• Contribute to customer support activities
• Report hierarchically to the R&D team leader
 We are looking for an enthusiastic and result-driven colleague, with the following profile:
• Master degree in chemical engineering or an adjacent field
• Preferably minimum 3 years’ experience in the field of explosion safety and explosion prevention
• Creative, flexible and enjoying experimental work
• Problem solver, interested in further developing our safety know-how
• Market focused and result oriented
• Team player with good communication skills
• Good language skills in English, both in speech and in writing
