This position is part of the Global Process safety team supporting our sites around the world. This position is responsible for providing leadership and support for all PSM related systems within their assigned region and around the globe. Through the execution of critical work processes that effectively identify and reduce process safety risks this person will help achieve a significant and sustained improvement in process safety performance within Nouryon.
Key Objectives
- Lead and improve the Nouryon Process Safety Management systems, processes, and tools.
- Develop process safety expertise at various levels throughout the company.
- Function as a key resource for the application of technical standards and applicable regulations for process safety management.
- Develop, improve, and support the implementation of process safety work processes and identify and address gaps for existing PSM regulated and non-regulated processes.
- Participate in the development of regional and global process safety strategies and tactics.
- Build line management understanding of Process Safety Systems, regulatory changes, and support on reduction of process incidents.
Principal Accountabilities
- Build and foster a deep understanding of the theoretical concepts, regional regulatory requirements and industry standards and best practices focused on process safety.
- Be an influential leader to leverage and improve process safety culture and knowledge through personal engagement at all levels within Nouryon.
- Own or support the development, update, maintenance, and implementation of corporate process safety programs and procedures.
- Provide leadership on all PSM elements and RMP.
- Provide expertise and interpretation related to process safety requirements such as facility siting, dispersion modeling, electrical classification, NFPA, ASME, and API.
- Conduct strategic data analysis on leading and lagging KPIs to develop recommendations to improve process safety performance.
- Support/guide PHA Facilitators/PHA Leaders in conducting Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs) and all related activities.
- Develop and deliver Nouryon training materials and workshop/webinars on process safety.
- Lead or participate in ad hoc teams from multiple disciplines to resolve issues.
- Lead or contribute to process safety related incident investigations.
- Lead or participate in regional and global process safety audits.
- Ensure Process Safety compliance with all local, state/regional, nation, and Nouryon standards.
Functional Responsibilities/Network
- Collaborates across all levels of operations, regional support organizations, and global support organizations.
Job Requirement / Candidate profile
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
- 10+ years of experience in a chemical process improvement role with applied PSM experience.
- 5+ years of experience and knowledge of regulatory requirements, engineering standards, EHS regulations, and PSM best practices.
- 5+ years of experience identifying, developing solutions, and executing process safety improvement objectives.
- 5+ years of experience participating and facilitating PHAs/LOPAs.
- 5+ years of experience leading incident investigations.
- Experience with interpreting and applying NFPA codes.
- Ability to prioritize and drive improvements.
- Travel 30%-50% with some international travel.
- Strong communication and influencing skills.
