TA & Contractor Superintendent

Key Objectives of the Job

  • Provide contractors and Turnaround work coordination for the Morris plant;
  • This position will focus primarily on jobs executed by contractors (crane, welding & piping repair, cleaning, etc.) that require repairs and preventative maintenance for the Electrical equipment / Installation at the Morris site;
  • Ensure the implementation of the Maintenance Strategy and Criticality Assessment of the Electrical assets;
  • This position is essential for the plant to operate in a safe & operable mode.


  • Develop work plans for Turnaround & Contractors’ jobs and unit outages with the necessary information to allow efficient scheduling, assignment, and execution of maintenance work
  • Work with plant MI/API Inspector to determine work scope per mechanical integrity program
  • Incorporate MI/API Inspection task list information and requirements into job plans for equipment
  • Procure and stage materials and tools as needed to efficiently complete contractors’ field execution
  • Incorporate scopes of work with contractual terms and conditions to develop bid packages
  • Stay familiar with HSE regulations. Incorporate safety, environmental and rescue plans into scopes of work
  • Initiate contact with contractors assigned to execute the job work
  • Make field job walks and inspections to determine appropriate job work scopes and develop electronic schedules for fieldwork
  • Work with plant operations to determine scope per operations work orders
  • Coordination of jobs between various contractors
  • Physically walk jobs to verify progress, work quality and overcome obstacles

Job Description

  •  Provide technical feedback on job packages provided. Point out areas of improvement and cost reduction possibilities
  • Monitor quality performance of maintenance and safety performance of work area
  • Ensure all turnaround and contractor activities are conducted in a safe manner in compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Establish and adjust contractors and maintenance priorities with the Gatekeeper, planners, and scheduler
  • Track and report work progress and update schedules during execution and pre/post–turnaround periods
  • Coordinate the activities of contractors to ensure the work proceeds unimpeded thereby avoiding delayed claims
  • Make decisions on the resolution of all priority conflicts involving executions resources, including labor
  • Lead the post turnaround critiques meeting, contractor evaluations, and lessons learned sessions
  • Identify materials/tools/equipment required to perform contractors’ tasks and PMs;
  • Assist in forecasting requirements, creating a budget, and scheduling expenses for the Turnaround and Contractors’ work
  • Manage the Contractor’s spend, cost control, Purchase Requestions, POs, Invoices, and Goods Receipt for all the work related to contractors
  • Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environment, health & safety;
  • Develop in-house personnel to perform pipe welding repair to reduce costs with contractors
  • Assist in planning and executing work activities and provide technical assistance as needed.
  • Manage on-site fitters and welders, and other tradesmen to ensure work is completed on time.

Experience, Education & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma;
  • 5+ years’ experience in any combination of the following: Planning, Scheduling, Estimating, Purchasing, Contracts, or Maintenance supervision;
  • Ability to perform specific craft work in emergency situations;
  • Extended hours necessary during periods of plant turnarounds;
  • Preferred Proficient in SAP-PM;
  • Excellent planning, organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks;
  • Must be self-directed and able to work normal responsibilities with minimal direction;
  • Strong work ethic; dedicated and willing to work the hours needed to accomplish a task;
