1. Job Context
- The Process Automation & Digital (PA&D) department resides within the Global Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) organization. It is a key enabler for Functional and Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement towards world-class productivity.
- PA&D drives deployment of process automation, advanced process data analytics, advanced regulatory control (ARC), advanced process control (APC) and inline process sensing, enabling a higher level of automation and efficiency of operating assets.
- To accelerate our growth strategy, we seek to extend our team with a Senior Analytics and Control Specialist.
2. Purpose
Accelerate value through process automation of Nouryon’s manufacturing assets. Use seniority, experience and the PA&D digital toolbox for the purpose of:
- Play a crucial role in capability building at company level around process automation and advanced data analytics
- Realize growth and reduction of manufacturing cost by means of tools in the process automation space
- Drive design and implementation of base-layer process control strategies
- Accelerate the design and implementation of APC
- Ensure efficient knowledge transfer of new insights and best practices in APC, ARC, base-layer control and advanced process-data analytics
- Ensure scalability through standardization and modularization
The Senior Analytics and Control Specialist role is either located at our Houston Park Row office USA or in our Shanghai China office. Independent of that, the scope is global thus involves travel.
3. Key Accountabilities and activities
- Identification of process automation opportunities by deep targeted assessment
- Benchmarking and follow up business benefits in area of responsibility
- Realization of targeted process automation projects, for the purpose of accelerating volume growth, reducing VMC and reducing our global carbon footprint
- Delivering tangible and quantifiable outcome from automation and digital initiatives
- Training and coaching of PA&D staff and plant staff in process automation, APC, ARC, Baselayer control and advanced data analytics
- Align with ISC and PA&D objectives
4. Education and experiences
- PhD or MSc in chemical engineering with a focus on (advanced) process control/automation/analytics or equivalent. PhD in chemical engineering with process systems engineering focus is a strong asset.
- Several years’ experience in process automation and control including exposure to on-site activities
- Strong track record in APC projects, and related ARC and base layer control solutions
- Strong background in mathematical process modelling and understanding
- Documented experience of leading (project) teams in multi-cultural environment
- Experience from working with external parties in the space of process control and analytics
- Strong Project management experience combining agile ways of working with classical waterfall driven site processes
5. Competencies and skills
- Deep technical competency in the space of process control and automation, self-sustaining when it comes to the solution strategy
- Capable to perform process assessment independently, with minimal guidance from his/her manager
- Able to effectively interact with all levels in the organization. Capable to communicate and work with key knowledgeable staff at different operational levels in production, R&D, technology and management
- Understands the (safety) challenges of chemical manufacturing
- Excellent communicator, both verbally, in presentations and in documentation
- Excellent communication skills in English both verbal and written
- Team-player, contributes to team’s ability to reach maximum performance, both on-site and in remote-settings
- Proven strategic and program management skills
- Exceptional understanding of external business trends to help drive internal strategies
- Change management: managing improvement programs at a global scale and with diverse teams as well as the cultural aspects of the change to be delivered.
