About the job

Nouryon operates with a variety of Chemical plants; each of them having specific waste water treatment challenges. Different type of COD’s (Chemical Oxygen Demand); often in combination with Chlorides, Sulfates and/or metals. As Senior Environmental Engineer you provide solutions for waste water treatment challenges at out plants across the world. You will take a leading role in studies and process selection and design for improving existing waste water treatment facilities or adding new treatment facilities. In this role you will create and leads an active network of waste water treatment engineers across Nouryon’s sites and actively develops skills and knowledge in this team.

In your future role as Global Waste Water Treatment Expert you will

  • Pro-actively assess (new) standards, BAT’s (Best Available Technology), permits and codes for their impact on our operations and inform sites and management on potential need for improvement.
  • Support sites in permit discussions with technological advice, reference to standards and BAT’s etc.
  • Lead studies, fit for purpose process selection and process design for improving existing facilities or adding new facilities.
  • Identify key cost driving components and challenge beginning-of-pipe solutions to reduce these components; so as to reduce the extend of end-of-pipe solutions.
  • Work with specialist engineering contractors or equipment manufacturers to complete basic design.
  • Support the Nouryon project manager during detailed design and construction and support (on the ground) commissioning and start-up of new units
  • Act as gatekeeper for new technologies and developments in existing waste water treatment technologies
  • Assess performance of waste water treatment facilities; identifies opportunities for improvement. Which include lowering emissions and lowering operating cost.
  • Support or lead root cause analysis/root cause problem solving for serious underperformance or incidents.
  • Identify good practices and drive deployment of these good practices across the regions
  • Run an active network of waste water treatment engineers across sites; develop skills and knowledge of the people in these networks, use the network for problem solving support and to drive good practices.

We believe you bring

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Bio-chemistry, Environmental Technology/Engineering or similar
  • Minimum10 years of working experience in the design and operation of a variety of types of waste water treatment plants. This includes aerobic and anaerobic treatment plants for combinations of COD’s and salts (chlorides, sulfates).
  • Active knowledge on standards and codes regarding waste water.
  • Active knowledge of relevant analytical techniques
  • Good network across academia and industry regarding state of the art treatment solutions.
  • Fluent in English and preferably also in Dutch

We offer you

  • A permanent contract with a probationary period of 2 months.
  • A gross basic annual salary including holiday allowance based on your knowledge and experience between EUR 107,200 and EUR 130.000.

Good to know

This is a permanent position on a full-time basis, based in Deventer. You will be reporting to the Director Global Engineering & Asset Management who is also based in Deventer. In this role there will be a travel component of about 25% of your time.
