Senior Mechanical Reliability Engineer
Nouryon has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Reliability Engineer with a strong background in rotating equipment. This role will be a part of the regional reliability team, serving sites in the USA, and to a lesser extent Canada and Brazil. This position is responsible for supporting, coaching, challenging and training Site Reliability Engineers and will collaborate with the ALPS Maintenance & Reliability team which ensures company-wide standardized processes. The role will be expected to participate in or lead root cause problem solving teams, be competent to establish preventive and predictive maintenance protocols, collect and interpret reliability data, lead RCM initiatives, facilitate criticality assessments and perform FMEAs and RPN calculations. Lastly this role will be a key member in supporting capital project teams that have a reliability focus and / or involve rotating equipment. This position will ensure root cause of the problem has been identified, that a reliable design has been identified as the solution in the capital projects, review qualified bidders of equipment, outline inspection test plans for purchased rotating equipment, do visits to third party shops for inspections as needed and support the project team during construction, commissioning and start-up. Any other duties assigned by management.
Depending on performance, capabilities and personal preference, the next position for job holder could be Regional Reliability Engineer, Maintenance & Reliability Team Lead, or entry into plant-based management opportunities such as Site Maintenance and Reliability Manager.
Education and Job Experience Required:
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of extensive and hands-on experience in Reliability Engineering
Proven track record in realizing substantial and sustainable performance improvement in reliability and maintenance
In depth knowledge of RCM techniques, criticality assessments, FMEAs and RPN calculations
Experience with state-of-the-art maintenance execution process, including planning & scheduling
Enough skill in SAP to perform the role of Mechanical Reliability Engineer
Good problem-solving skills, able to identify and structure issues, run accurate analyses and synthesize recommendations
Participation on teams designing projects
Active participation as technical resource in development of reliable designs and installation
Active participation in the final field checks of the commissioned equipment including factory and site acceptance tests
Lead reliability and maintainability reviews of designs
Root cause evaluations
Evaluate reoccurring failures, identify its cause and give timely recommendations for improving, and provide follow through to closure on assigned projects to eliminate root causes.
This role will have a 40-hour standard M-F work-week, however, this person must be available to serve as part of a regional or global on-call team and this means this person will be asked to travel and work outside of normal working hours. This person may also be required to participate in a technical team that supporting shutdowns. Travel at times could be 30% at times depending on the needs of the business.
Greater than 5 years of experience in reliability engineering with a focus on rotating equipment
Skill in RCM techniques, criticality assessments and FMEA calculations
Experience as a Reliability Engineer supporting Capital Projects greater than 1 mln EUR
Experience with or certified to at least a level I in one of the Predictive Maintenance Technologies such as Vibration Analysis, Oil Analysis, Infrared Thermography, etc.
Skill in Root Cause Problem Solving
Preferred Experience but Not Required:
Corrosion and materials science training and experience
Experience in using continuous improvement tools such as Lean or Six-Sigma
Skill in Risk Based Inspection (RBI) strategy and tactics
Subject matter expert supporting Turnarounds relative to fixed or rotating equipment
