Nouryon has an outstanding opportunity for a Regional Tax Specialist in Chicago, IL.

o             Lead the direct and indirect (sales and use) tax filing packages

o             Manage the coordination of filings within Specialty Chemicals

o             Liaison between the Regional Accounting Center and the tax department


•Responsible for all tax for the Regional Accounting Center and main point of contact for the tax department in Chicago and Corporate.  Work closely and coordinate with Nouryon Chemicals LLC personnel and BUs/SMUs

•Lead and coordinate the reporting of direct federal and state tax packages for all North American BUs/SMUs and coordinate with the US tax department and our third-party provider to follow up on questions

•Manage the data gathering for indirect (sales and use) tax and interface with our third-party provider Grant Thornton to follow up on questions, oversee tax payments and indirect tax audits

•Prepare financial reports for internal and external customers needed for tax matters

•Execute financial reports with appropriate due diligence and as prescribed in the Financial & Economic Manual (FEM) needed for tax matters

•Other departmental non-routine projects/assignments as requested

•Manage indirect (sales and use) tax audits

•Property tax coordination with various third-party providers

•Act as back-up to the unclaimed property specialist

•Advise on complex tax accounting issues

•Understands and has knowledge of IFRS and FEM

•Identify opportunities to improve and automate processes and controls and drive continuous improvement

•Drive changes in policies (e.g. training / SOP / policy / communications)


Level of Autonomy

Lead tax related discussions and make decisions in the region;

General guidance and direction for the business units, on how to implement and operate tax processes across the region (align continuous improvement agenda)

Tactical decision maker on how to organize and service the business from the region

Sign-off legal local statutory accounts/reports


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and 7+ years of relevant accounting work experience.
  • MBA/CPA preferred
  • Knowledge of direct and indirect Tax required
  • Tax background either by education or work experience required
  • Knowledge in specialized accounting areas such as Tax, Fixed Assets, Inventory and/or Financial Reporting
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and IFRS
  • Experience in SAP; proficient in  Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook); experience with Hyperion Financial Management a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Highly analytical; accurate with an attention to detail
  • Ability to build relationships with customers/stakeholders in a multi-national environment
  • Drive standardization across BUs in the region and guards the integrity and quality of the delivered accounting in the specific area
  • Preferably has working experience in one or more business units / SMUs
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and meet strict deadlines and manage pressure. Overtime may be required during month end close, tax deadlines and other critical projects.
