This is a newly created position.
The APAC Regional Compliance Officer will lead, oversee and direct the regional compliance function for Nouryon. This includes anti-corruption, antitrust/competition, ethics, privacy, sanctions and trade compliance, third party due diligence, well as managing in-person training and overseeing investigations in the region. The APAC Regional Compliance Officer will play a critical role in the day-to-day functioning of the Company’s global and regional compliance programs. This position reports to the Company’s Assistant General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, who is based in the US.
Working together with the Assistant General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer to enhance the reputation of the Compliance function in the Asia Pacific region by:
-Providing ethics and compliance stewardship to key regional executives for all regional compliance matters that support global business objectives and satisfies international legal and regulatory requirements.
-Designing and implementing new and cutting-edge compliance processes at a dynamic company committed to change and improvement.
-Conducting risk assessments and developing new policies and processes to remediate any identified issues, and project manage such remediation actions to completion
-Managing outside counsel responsible for conducting internal investigations.
-Responding to whistleblower reports in a timely manner and maintaining effective engagement with reporters
-Assisting in third party due diligence and the ongoing screening of customers, distributors, agents and other third parties
-Overseeing the Company’s regional conflict of interest disclosure process.
-Assisting the government affairs team to provide comments to new or proposed legislation
-Partnering with corporate functions such as Legal, Finance, Tax, Research & Development, Operations and all Nouryon sites. Develop and implement efficient and effective processes throughout business units to deliver compliance reliability.
-Assisting the Global Trade Director on regional projects related to import/export and trade compliance
-Supporting M&A due diligence inquiries.
-Performing other duties assigned as needed.
• Law degree and qualified to practice law in at least one Asia Pacific jurisdiction
• 8+ years’ experience working on compliance issues for a multinational company
• Experience in working independently in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities; Experienced in conducting internal investigations and risk assessments
• Fluent in English and Mandarin both written and spoken. Other languages (Cantonese, Korean and Japanese) desirable but not essential.
