Responsibility

Requirements for Job (education or experience required to be able to perform this job):

  • BS or MS in Chemistry or related field
  • Five to ten years of experience in home and personal care product formulation and development
    • Experience in home care over personal care is preferred
    • Experience in surfactants knowledge is preferred
  • Must want to perform hands-on laboratory bench work
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels within the technical and business networks
  • 10-15% travel requires

Key Objectives/Principal Accountabilities (limit to a maximum of eight)

  • The successful candidate will join the Nouryon Chemicals team and be responsible for the formulation, development, and evaluation of new ingredients for the home and personal care segments.  This may include developments for various sub-segments, such as hard surface cleaners, degreasers, laundry applications, personal cleansing systems, conditioners, sunscreens, skin care products, and hair styling agents.
     
  • The position responsibilities include:
    • Knowledge in synthetic and bio-based polymers and surfactants for consumer markets
    • Basic formulation knowledge in the home and personal care segment areas
    • Development and testing of experimental polymers and surfactants in home and personal care applications
    • Use, improve, and implement new methodologies and tools to link test data to consumer attributes in above market areas
    • Delivering results for large sized and/or complex projects on time, with Project Management skills a plus
       
  • The applicant should have good multi-tasking, organizational, and communication skills (written and presentation). The successful candidate will interface internally with the marketing, technical service, and manufacturing groups, and externally with customers to fulfill product needs within targeted home and personal care markets. 

 

Key Activities

  • Identifies project need, set-up, plan, execute, analyze, interpret and report experiments outside own unit
  • Identifies new product/process optimization, technical solutions and innovation, new application opportunities for own area/domain, supported by feasibility results
  • Keeps current on uses and improves relevant research methods in the field, ensures retention of knowledge through research reports and ensures other team members stay current
  • Participates in projects and ensure executing and delivery using own area of expertise
  • With IP group, manages & files IP applications and analyze 3rd party IP
  • Understands, develops and comments on technical strategy in own area
  • Prepares and presents information for customer activities as appropriate
  • Maintains and promotes a safe work environment.  End results are zero or minimum safety incidents and a clean, orderly working environment.
