Nouryon has an outstanding opportunity for a Production Technician position, located in Moses Lake, WA.

 

 

 

OBJECTIVES:

 

  • The Production Technician on shift is responsible for maintaining proper field and process operations of the sodium chlorate production unit during the work shift, under the direction of the Chief Technician.

 

  • With support of the Production Supervisor and the Chief Technician, the Production Technician ensures that established goals, policies, and procedures in safety, health, environmental, quality, production, and human relations are implemented and adhered to as applicable within the Production Technician's defined scope of responsibility and authority.

 

  • The Production Technician works with and under the direction of the Production Supervisor and the Chief Technician in meeting department objectives and requirements.

 

  • With the support and direction of the Production Supervisor and Chief Technician, the Production Technician is responsible for optimizing the chlorate plant performance.  This includes optimizing acid usage, caustic usage, nitrogen usage, power usage and production.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Work with the Chief Technician on shift, forming a shift team that is capable of satisfactorily maintaining normal plant operations, but prepared to take proper action during abnormal plant operations or emergencies.  (An example of such action is firefighting, but only to the response level qualified or trained).

 

  • Participate in and/or execute activities pertaining to the production and loading areas during the work shift as necessary to maintain overall production department objectives and requirements.

 

  • Assist the Chief Technician in documenting and communicating critical information related to plant operation.  This may include such items as logbook entries, operating log sheets, informative shift changes, and applicable reports.

 

  • Assist the Chief Technician in monitoring and controlling the process via the Bailey DCS and other in-plant controls.  Work with the Chief Technician in evaluating analytical and process data affecting process operations and taking preventative or corrective action as necessary.

 

  • Perform periodic field checks of processes as required to ensure proper operations and to help avoid equipment damage, unsafe or undesirable situations, and similar events.

 

  • With the assistance of the Chief Technician and maintenance department, the Production Technician is responsible for equipment care and condition monitoring with a goal of preventing equipment failures.

 

  • Perform sampling and lab analyses as required.
  • Participate in the interaction and requirements of maintenance and production activities during the work shift as necessary.  This may include such items as preparing equipment for maintenance, writing work orders, preparing work permits, documenting activities and events occurring during the shift, performing inspections, and other similar activities.

 

  • Assist in the evaluation and testing of new projects and experiments.  Prepare PCR’s as required. 

 

  • This position involves handling and working around hazardous materials, and maintaining any necessary certifications, as required.

 

  • Overtime work hours will sometimes be required to meet production department needs.

 

  • Attend meetings and training sessions as required.  Some of these events will not be possible to be scheduled during the normally scheduled shift working hours.

 

  • Responsible for helping to maintain a positive and professional work environment. This includes such issues as personnel relations, discouraging any form of harassment, maintaining proper communications, and supporting management objectives.

 

  • The Production Technician is required to meet the qualifications to temporarily upgrade to the position of Chief Technician.  Qualification requirements for upgrading are not defined in this document and are subject to the discretion of the Production Supervisor and Operations Manager.

 

  • Perform various tasks related to the plant utility systems as required by supervision.

 

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBITIES:

 

  • There are no supervisory responsibilities normally associated with this position.  However, the Production Technician may occasionally take a leadership role when working with others in the production unit area, especially personnel from outside the department such as summer students, contract workers, visiting engineers, and other such personnel unfamiliar with the hazards of the work area or the specifics of the work being done.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

 

  • A Washington State Driver’s License is required.

 

  • This position may require compliance with Akzo Nobel RBPS 12 Corporate CFATS Personnel Surety Compliance Policy for Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards, depending on the work area or activities within the plant.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

A.        Education and/or Experience:

 

Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and two years plus of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

B.        Language Skills:

 

The Production Technician must be able to:

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Write routine reports and correspondence.

Speak effectively in a group of contemporaries in the local plant organization.

 

C.        Mathematical Skills:

 

The Production Technician must be able to:

Calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and ratios.

Apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, and statistics.

 

D.        Reasoning Ability:

 

The Production Technician must be able to:

Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations with incomplete information to reach sound conclusions.

Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

E.        Other Skills and Abilities:

 

Ability to utilize the Bailey DCS, including interpretation of audible/visual alarms and typewritten reports generated by the DCS, is required.  Ability to operate and use personal computers and in-plant software is preferred.
