Building on our expertise
Our Integrated Manufacturing Models (also known as Chemical Islands) are powered using renewable biomass energy produced by our pulp manufacturing partners. This results in a low carbon footprint for our operations while also providing our customer with efficient chemicals. Of course, the proximity of chlorine dioxide production also means less transportation resulting in eco-efficiency and improved safety.
We now operate four Integrated Manufacturing Models in Brazil each supplying bleaching and other chemicals and services to a pulp mill customer.
The new €80 million Imperatriz Integrated Manufacturing Model opened in May 2014 and is supplying the Suzano Maranhão Pulp Mill in northern Brazil. This state-of-the-art facility represents our second major investment in the Brazilian Pulp Industry this decade. It will supply, store and handle all chemicals for the 1.5 million tons per year Suzano mill under an agreement which runs for the next 15 years.
In 2013, we completed our biggest ever investment in Latin America – the Jupiá Integrated Manufacturing Model. The facility will operate within a 15-year deal to supply the world’s largest single line pulp mill at the Eldorado Celulose e Papel pulp mill near Três Lagoas. These two new facilities expand on our existing footprint in Brazil where we already operated two Integrated Manufacturing Models - Bahia and Três Lagoas that supply chemicals to the Veracel Bahia and Fibria Três Lagoas pulp mills respectively. We also have well established pulp chemicals production at units Jacareí and Jundiaí.
