About the Thesis project

MSc thesis (30 ECTS, approximately 20 weeks) at Home & Personal Care, Nouryon Stenungsund, spring 2027 or fall 2027

Factors influencing fragrance delivery and performance in cleaning applications

Fragrance plays a key role in consumer’s perception of cleaning products. Beyond contributing a pleasant scent, fragrances are strongly linked to the perception of cleanliness, freshness, and product performance. However, achieving optimal fragrance delivery and long-lasting performance remains a significant technical challenge due to fragrance volatility, interactions with formulation ingredients, and differences in substrate properties.

The project will combine surface chemistry, formulation science and advanced analytical techniques to investigate how interactions between fragrance molecules and formulation ingredients influence fragrance delivery, deposition and retention.

The project will involve laboratory experiments using model cleaning formulations and modern analytical techniques to investigate factors influencing fragrance delivery and performance. Depending on the project scope, the work may focus on interactions between fragrance molecules and formulation ingredients, fragrance deposition and retention, or the relationship between these phenomena.

The objective is to generate scientific insights that support the development of more effective and consumer-relevant cleaning products with enhanced fragrance performance.
