Nouryon (formerly AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals) has more than doubled capacity for emulsion-based organic peroxides at its site in Los Reyes, Mexico to meet increased customer demand in the North American polyvinyl chloride (PVC) market.

Nouryon has completed a repricing of its Euro and US Dollar term loans, reducing its annual interest payments by approximately €18.5 million. The successful repricing was enabled by the company’s solid financial performance in 2019.

Nouryon announced today the completion of the spin-out of its base chemicals business, Nobian, into a separate company remaining under the ownership of Nouryon’s equity owners, The Carlyle Group and GIC. 

Nouryon and other firms based at Chemical Park Delfzijl in the Netherlands will save up to 100,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year through the increased use of sustainable steam. The company will use the additional supply to make its salt production at the Delfzijl site more sustainable.

Nouryon has doubled production capacity for dicumyl peroxide (DCP) at its site in Ningbo, China after completing a major expansion project. The plant is the largest of its kind in the world and can now produce up to 38,000 tons per year of DCP, an organic peroxide used in the manufacture of polymers that need exceptional durability such as shoe soles and insulation for high-voltage cables.

Nouryon today announced an exclusive agreement with Brenntag Specialties to serve as the sole distributor of Nouryon’s patented LumaTreat® tagged polymers in the US and Canada. The agreement encompasses a wide portfolio of Nouryon’s specialty polymers and provides water treatment professionals greater access to critical ingredients for industrial and commercial cooling and heating systems.

Nouryon has increased production capacity for dialkyl peroxide at the company’s Ningbo site, China, by 25 percent after completing a major expansion project. The product, branded as Perkadox 14, is essential in the manufacture of many elastomer-based products, ranging from sports goods to industrial wires and cables.

Nouryon has signed a long-term agreement with Arauco to supply essential sodium chlorate and chlorine dioxide solutions for Arauco’s new $4.6 billion pulp mill in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. As part of the agreement, Nouryon will construct fully integrated sodium chlorate and chlorine dioxide manufacturing facilities in Mato Grosso do Sul, leveraging its technology and integrated manufacturing model expertise to enhance its leading market positions in South America, particularly Brazil, as a key supplier for the pulp and paper industry. Nouryon will own and operate the sodium chlorate facility – which will increase its industry-leading South America capacity in Brazil by 20% and globally by almost 10% - and engineer, construct and operate the Arauco chlorine dioxide plant. Pulp mill production is scheduled to start in late 2027.

Nouryon announced today that it will invest in its facility in Ningbo, China, to significantly increase the capacity of organic peroxide products Perkadox® 14 and Trigonox® 101. With this investment, Nouryon will double the annual production capacity to 6000 tons each for Perkadox® 14 and Trigonox® 101 organic peroxides by mid-2024.

Today we announced important investments in China to support the country’s increasing demand for high-performance polymers and grow alongside its customers in one of the world’s fastest growing polymer markets. At its site in Jiaxing, Nouryon has completed a capacity expansion for metal alkyls production, which will ultimately double its ability to produce triethylaluminum, a co-catalyst essential in the manufacture of polyethylene and polypropylene for packaging, automotive components and consumer goods.
