Nouryon recognized as ‘excellent’ Volunteer Fire Corps Office in Japan

March 2022

In March 2022, the Nouryon Asa site received the Prefectural Governor's Award from the local ministry. The award recognizes the company’s proactive approach and remarkable achievements in enhancing the local firefighting and disaster prevention system as the Volunteer Fire Corps. On March 28th, the Chief of the Sanyo Onoda Fire Department visited the Nouryon Asa site and presented a certificate of commendation and plaque to Araki Shigeo, Nouryon Asa Site Manager.

The local ministry, Yamaguchi Prefecture, commends companies that have made great achievements in cooperation with fire brigade activities every year. This year, only the top two companies were selected from 196 companies.

“We are proud that the Nouryon Asa site is one of the top two companies selected for this recognition,” said Araki Shigeo, Nouryon Asa Site Manager of Nouryon. “The Asa site team is always complying with the fire service act, and actively working with firefighting volunteers in its organization, to build an environment in which fire volunteers are trained and dispatched in the event of a local community emergency.”

In Japan, about 870,000 volunteers perform fire suppression and other related emergency services for their local jurisdictions. To enhance firefighting and disaster prevention readiness in local jurisdictions, a system was introduced to certify companies that support the activities of the Volunteer Fire Corps. In 2021, Nouryon Asa site was certified as one of the Volunteer Fire Corps Offices by the Fire and Disaster Management Agency (FDMA) and Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) in the national government.
