Nouryon Shines as Main Sponsor at SCS2025 in Sweden
June 2025
The Swedish Chemical Society recently hosted its third national meeting, SCS2025, bringing together approximately 350 chemists and industry professionals from across Sweden. The event focused on the latest advancements in chemistry, with sustainable chemistry as the theme - a cross-disciplinary research area that aims to explore how new materials, energy solutions, and environmentally friendly practices can contribute to a sustainable world.
Nouryon played a pivotal role as the main sponsor, underscoring its commitment to sustainable innovation in the chemical industry.
Johan Landfors, Nouryon's Chief Technology Officer and President Europe gave a keynote presentation focused on the chemical industry in Europe and participated in a panel discussion on sustainability, where he provided insights on the challenges and opportunities of the industry. His session highlighted the importance of collaboration among industry leaders, academia, and policymakers in driving sustainable practices. “Innovative chemistry is crucial for a sustainable society,” Landfors noted, highlighting the role of cooperation in enhancing competitiveness and ensuring long-term prosperity.
The Company showcased its expertise at the event through senior scientists who shared insights into Nouryon’s research and development and recent innovations. A notable highlight was the Company's collaboration with Luleå University of Technology, where Professor Farid Akhtar presented new designs and engineering of materials with expanded ultralow-density microspheres.
Throughout the conference, participants discussed sustainable chemistry, exploring how innovations in materials, energy solutions, and eco-friendly practices can enhance sustainability. The conference was also a platform for young researchers to network with colleagues and experienced professionals. At its conclusion, the conference stood as a testament to the collective efforts of the Swedish chemical industry, with Nouryon at the forefront, to promote a sustainable future for the industry.
The Swedish Chemical Society, established in 1883, has long been a cornerstone of the Swedish chemistry community. It promotes the development of chemistry and its applications, serving over 3,000 members, including chemists, chemical engineers, educators, and students.
