About the job 

 

The Nouryon Asphalt Applications Team operates globally and provides its customers with emulsifiers, adhesion promoters and warm mix additives. These products are backed by first class technical support. The Asphalt business has many customers who depend on the technical support provided by suppliers. This position is for a detail-oriented asphalt specialist within the Asphalt group at the Bridgewater, New Jersey, Innovation Center of Nouryon. The Asphalt group provides expert technical support to asphalt customers and distributors, creative solutions that meet changing customer needs, regulatory constraints, and sustainability goals, support continued growth through successful product launches and lead the development of new products and internal continuous improvement activities.

In your future role as Application Researcher, you will 

 

  • Provide technical support for Nouryon’s asphalt chemicals business by performing in-house application testing of products for customers and to support the introduction of new products to meet industry and customer needs according to the business strategy.
  • Conduct technical service and R&D laboratory work including planning, sample preparation, asphalt emulsification, emulsion testing, binder testing, performance tests and rheological testing, reformulation work, analysis of results and other duties as assigned.
  • Active participation in development of R&D projects and internal continuous improvement activities; Interact closely with other lab groups plant QC-labs, Analytical and Synthesis.
  • Maintains well-documented laboratory records, including a laboratory notebook, providing insightful project reports, preparing monthly activities summaries and utilizing project database.
  • Participate in customer visits as required and develop technical relationships with customers; interact closely with sales and marketing groups.
  • Be prepared to travel to industry events, job sites and customers if necessary (~15%).
  • Active participation in technical trainings for customers, salespeople and distributors as needed.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of laboratory instrumentation to assure best possible performance and reliability.
  • Maintain laboratory hygiene.
  • Maintain company safety standards and lives the company values.

 


We believe you bring 

 

  • The individual sought for this specific position will have a BSc in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, MS and/or PhD is a plus within a minimum 1-5 years of experience in asphalt laboratory applications as well as the following:
  • Proven hands-on experience in laboratory data collection and analyses from standard asphalt test methods like ASTM, ISSA and AASHTO.
  • Possess good communication skills enabling them to interact with sales team and customers, and represents Nouryon in industry technical meetings and seminars, always displaying professionalism and ethics.
  • Excellent documentation and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks and projects in coordination with management.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly laboratory environment. 
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and an eagerness to learn.
  • Strong team player with ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to tasks.
  • Drive for maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Inherent safety focus.

This is a permanent position on a full-time basis, reporting to Group Leader – R&D Asphalt and based in Bridgewater, NJ
