In your future role as an HSE Specialist, you will

 

The HSES Specialist supports the site’s Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSES) programs to ensure compliance with corporate standards, local/state/federal regulations, and ISO/Responsible Care® requirements. This position assists in implementing safety, environmental, and emergency response initiatives, conducts field inspections, maintains regulatory records, and supports training and incident investigation activities.

The role is hands-on and field-focused, serving as the link between operations and HSES management to drive a strong safety culture and environmental compliance across the site.

 

Health & Safety

  • Support the development and implementation of safety policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with corporate HSES standards.
  • Conduct daily field safety observations, audits, and behavioral-based safety (BBS) checks; track and trend findings.
  • Assist in the Permit-to-Work process for hot work, confined space, and other high-risk activities.
  • Participate in and help facilitate Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), incident investigations, and root cause analyses.
  • Maintain safety performance metrics, near-miss reports, and corrective action tracking in the HSES Suite (Enablon).
  • Conduct and support training programs related to PPE, safe work practices, emergency response, and site safety orientation.
  • Participate in site safety meetings, toolbox talks, and SCAN (Survey–Consider–Act–Notify) observations.
  • Assist in maintaining and testing emergency response equipment (e.g., eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, alarms).
  • Support the management of contractor safety programs, including pre-job meetings and field audits.

Environmental Compliance

  • Support environmental recordkeeping and reporting for air emissions, wastewater, and waste management programs.
  • Conduct environmental inspections and sampling as required to ensure compliance with permits and regulations (EPA, state environmental agencies).
  • Assist in the coordination and documentation of waste storage, labeling, and disposal activities.
  • Maintain records for Stormwater Pollution Prevention, SPCC, and waste minimization programs.
  • Support audits and inspections by internal and external parties, including regulatory agencies.
  • Help track and report environmental performance metrics and assist in completing periodic environmental reports and submissions.

Emergency Response & Security

  • Support the site’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP) through drills, training coordination, and equipment readiness checks.
  • Assist in maintaining site security and visitor control procedures, including badge issuance and compliance with DHS security guidelines.

Continuous Improvement & Documentation

  • Assist in maintaining Responsible Care® and ISO 14001 documentation and records.
  • Support the implementation of HSES improvement projects, campaigns, and performance initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and assist in preparing reports and presentations for site leadership.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for HSES programs, audits, and meetings.

 

 

We believe you bring

 

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred OR equivalent experience.
  • 2–5 years of experience in health, safety, and/or environmental compliance, ideally in a chemical or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and state-level environmental regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) principles preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to spend time in production and field areas.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with Enablon or other HSES management systems a plus.
  • Ability to learn and apply regulatory requirements and corporate policies.
  • Capable of wearing required PPE, including flame-resistant clothing (FRCs), safety shoes, hard hat, safety glasses, and respirator if necessary.
  • Able to lift approximately 50 lbs., climb up and down ladders and stairs, and work in both indoor and outdoor plant environments.

 

Great if you have:

 

  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry
  • HAZWOPER 40-Hour or equivalent
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Environmental or Safety Technician certification (e.g., CHST, CESM) preferred
