Post Consumer To Prime (PCtP) is an innovative partnership between various companies that focuses on promoting sustainability and circularity. This project, co-funded by the European Union, aims to maximise the value of post-consumer materials and reintegrate them into the economy. Through collaboration and knowledge sharing, we want to make a positive impact on the environment and society.

A consortium of Dutch companies —TreMalin Plastics Industrial, Transmare Compounding, Nouryon Functional Chemicals, Veridis Technologies, and Broos Water— aims to develop a new process to increase the use of recycled materials through innovative solutions. This consortium focuses on recycling post-consumer plastic (PE and PP) into high-quality regranulate suitable for extrusion blow molding. By utilizing advanced analytical technology (MADSCAN®) and special additives (organic peroxides), the consortium can elevate the quality of recycled plastic to that of prime materials at market-competitive prices.

The goal is to create a circular plastic chain and enable the production of complex, sustainable hollow products like the Rainblock®. The Rainblock®, a product with a significant impact on water management, serves as the ultimate test case for the improved recycled material. Due to the complexity of its shape and the high demands on the material, the Rainblock® presents an ideal challenge for the new technology.

The consortium aims to develop an accessible solution for all processors. Through smart innovations and close collaboration among the various parties, they seek to establish a cost-effective and industrially scalable process.

With this innovative approach, the consortium wants to contribute to a market where recycled material is as widely applicable as new plastic. In this way, we can reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower CO2 emissions, and achieve European recycling targets.

Key Points of the Project:

  • High-Quality Recycling: Converting post-consumer plastic into a quality suitable for demanding applications like the Rainblock®.
  • Advanced Technology: Utilizing MADSCAN® for detailed material analysis and organic peroxides to improve the properties of the recycled material.
  • Accessible Solutions: Developing technologies that are accessible to all processors.
  • Circular Economy: Creating a circular plastic chain and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

A consortium of TreMalin Plastics Industrial, Transmare Compounding, Nouryon, Veridis Technologies and Broos Water is working on an innovative recycling process for post-consumer PE and PP waste, with the aim of upgrading it to high-quality raw materials for extrusion blow moulding. Veridis supplies the MADSCAN® for detailed analysis, while Nouryon provides specialized peroxides to extend polymer chains and increase the quality of recycled plastics. The project demonstrates the application by producing Rainblocks® from at least 80% recycled material and thereby contributes to the circular transition and CO2 reduction in the southern Netherlands.
