The 4th World Recycling Convention has the theme “Revitalizing the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Overcoming Obstacles and Inspiring Innovation.” The event will take place June 22–23, 2026, in Basel, Switzerland.
The 2026 edition will highlight cutting-edge innovations shaping the future of recycling and circularity—spanning digital recycling ecosystems, AI-driven material recovery, smart manufacturing, advanced material and plastic recycling, circular business models, ESG intelligence, and next-generation solutions enabling low-carbon, resource-efficient transitions across industries.
Coming to the event, we will deliver a presentation titled "Consistent quality at your desired MFI in rPP. How to use organic peroxides to restore recycled polypropylene performance for demanding packaging, automotive and consumer goods applications".
Recycled polypropylene (rPP), whether post‑consumer or post‑industrial, often comes with a mid- range and inconsistent melt flow index (MFI), limiting processing options and driving up costs.
Organic peroxides are used in recycling to increase MFI of rPP by promoting chain scission. Nouryon has now developed a novel organic- peroxide- based technology that offers precise tuning of the MFI of rPP— decreasing MFI—while simultaneously improving key mechanical properties.
This technology allows compounders, recyclers, and converters to transform challenging rPP streams into high‑value materials tailored for demanding applications such as thermoforming, film blowing/casting, and foaming. In parallel, elasticity and impact/mechanical resistance are enhanced, enabling higher recycled content without sacrificing performance or processing efficiency.
By lifting both quality and design flexibility in rPP, Nouryon supports the production of consistent, specification‑grade recyclate and helps brand owners and OEMs meet upcoming PPWR and ELV recycled content requirements. The presentation will share performance data, formulation guidelines, and case examples illustrating how MFI and properties can be tuned to unlock new markets for recycled PP.
