2023 Safety Day

Celebrating Stories of Care for Ourselves, Our Colleagues, and Our Communities

This year’s Safety Day celebration on September 20 was a special one for the Nouryon team.

Typically, Safety Day has focused on just one component of safety, such as last year’s theme of hazard and risk recognition. This year, we took a different path by coinciding our annual Safety Day celebrations with the launch of Nouryon Cares, a new approach that is shining a spotlight on all the ways we show our care for: Ourselves, Our Colleagues, and Our Communities.

“Our annual Safety Day celebration isn’t just a day on the calendar; it's a reminder of our collective responsibility to prioritize safety in everything we do,” said Katie Rahill, Vice President Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Policy and Deputy General Counsel at Nouryon. “It is a time when our teams around the world come together to celebrate and reinforce our commitment to safety.”

The aim of Nouryon Cares is to highlight the many real-world wins, programs, and team member stories behind our core commitments – from safety to employee wellness to sustainability. This comprehensive focus reinforces not only how we show our care, but also why we show our care.

Our Safety Day celebration centered around employees sharing stories and real-world examples of how and why we show our care for the safety and wellness of Ourselves, Our Colleagues, and Our Communities. In the weeks leading up to Safety Day, team members filled our Viva Engage feed with unique stories… Stories about why they prioritize safety at work – and everywhere they go. Stories about our site teams coming together to focus on safety and wellness. Stories about our employees volunteering and making a tangible difference in the communities we serve.

And the inspiration didn’t stop there! On September 20 – and the whole week of the Safety Day celebration – our global teams found unique ways to showcase their commitment to safety and each other. From interactive workshops to team-building exercises emphasizing good safety practices, our employees again went above and beyond to demonstrate their dedication and care.

As we reflect on this year's Safety Day celebration, we are reminded that safety – and all of our core commitments – are not just concepts but a way of life at Nouryon. Our commitment to Ourselves, Our Colleagues, and Our Communities extends well beyond this special day, shaping our actions and decisions every day of the year.

And those commitments live in our stories. So perhaps the best part of our 2023 Safety Day celebration is a reminder that our Nouryon Cares story is one that will continue to evolve with every impactful story from our sites and team members.

As we wrap up this chapter of our story – and our 2023 Safety Day event – we want to extend a heartfelt thanks to our remarkable employees who made the celebration exceptional. Their stories, passion, and dedication made this year’s celebration our best Safety Day yet. We thank them for being the driving force behind our care and commitment to Ourselves, Our Colleagues, and Our Communities.

Here are some of our 2023 Safety Day events and activities highlights from around the world:

Shanghai Office

The Shanghai Office invited a traditional Chinese medical doctor from the community medical service center to host a health lecture for employees.

Mumbai Office

To drive home the importance of identifying key hazards and taking appropriate action, the Mumbai Office organized a group skit based on safety scenarios. This interactive and informative session helped team members visualize real-life situations – and inspired them to be proactive in ensuring safety in our workplace.

Battleground and Pasadena Sites

Employees from our Battleground and Pasadena Sites volunteered at an annual Safety Fair, where they partnered with local community partners to provide exciting and educational health and safety demonstrations for students.

Jundiaí Site

Our Jundiaí Site held a full week of workshops covering topics such as “Active Caring: Taking Care of Ourselves and Our Colleagues,” “Body Care, Routine Exams, and Illnesses and their Signs,” and “First Aid Basics.”

Employees at our Rotterdam Site collected food and other items, such as paper towels, water bottles, and hygiene products, to donate to their local food bank.
