Nouryon supports community healthcare in India

Nouryon joins hands with the Mahad Manufacturers Association to improve public health in India.

November 2020

The Government of India declared a nationwide lockdown in March 2020 to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As the world’s second-most-populous country and growing number of positive cases, India was faced with the immense challenge of rapidly responding to the pandemic with limited healthcare infrastructure.

Rising to meet this challenge, the government took immediate steps to strengthen and create more resilient healthcare centers. Nouryon, alongside the Mahad Manufacturers Association (MMA) and other industrial members, joined together in response to the government’s appeal by volunteering and donating to help build a community healthcare center.

“We’re finding ways forward to give back to the local community and help make a positive impact during these challenging times,” said Nouryon’s India Managing Director Shrikant Kulkarni. “At Nouryon, we’re guided by our core value of ‘We do it right’—holding ourselves accountable to do the right thing and be a responsible member of the communities in which we operate. We’re thrilled to partner with MMA and extend our financial assistance to support this worthy and noble philanthropic cause.”

Located near Nouryon’s Mahad, India manufacturing site, the new “COVID Health Care Centre” recently opened, equipped with a COVID-19 test facility, 84 beds with oxygen supply, 100 beds for isolation, consulting rooms, isolation wards, supply storage, and new medical equipment, such as ventilators. To date, the facility has treated more than 1100 infected patients in the local community, free of charge.

In addition, Nouryon volunteered and provided administrative support to ensure a smooth handover to local authorities. Amit Salagare, Nouryon’s Mahad Site Manager, worked closely with the MMA Executive Committee to plan and execute the healthcare facility project within three weeks.

Nouryon’s manufacturing facility in Mahad has been operational for more than three decades. The site supplies organic peroxides and features a refilling station for organometallic substances.
