On Sept. 17, Nouryon sites across the globe came together for Safety Day, an event dedicated to one of our most important values: ensuring the safety and well-being of all employees. This year’s Safety Day theme, “Safety starts with me,” focused on what each of us can do as individuals to promote and ensure the safety of ourselves, our colleagues and our communities. Nouryon’s commitment to a safe working environment was emphasized through subthemes of personal responsibility, proactive behavior and a culture of safety that begins with every individual.
At our Amersfoort (Netherlands) site, Safety Day featured ISO tank and blind spot demonstrations to raise awareness about traffic safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. Team members gained valuable insights into a truck driver's perspective, highlighting what is visible – and what remains unseen.
Our team in Mons (Belgium) demonstrated the importance of personal responsibility in safety through a series of creative workshops, including CPR basics, PPE awareness and chemical reactions. The latter featured experiments showing the reactivity of raw materials, underscoring the need for careful handling.
In Houston (Texas, US), after the Safety Day town hall led by the regional health, safety and environmental director, employees participated in a competitive Kahoot! game to reinforce their knowledge of Nouryon’s safety protocols. Fire extinguisher training was also offered.
In Fort Worth (Texas, US), following the Safety Day town hall, employees engaged in group safety discussions and participated in a Jeopardy-style game focused on various safety categories. Site vendors set up booths to display safety gear, and the Emergency Response Team conducted a fire hose demonstration for extinguishing industrial fires
Sites in Asia creatively observed Safety Day with town halls led by site leaders, followed by games, interactive activities and personal safety story sharing. Employees also signed a poster pledging their commitment to a safe workplace.
The Ningbo (China) site hosted a safety knowledge competition covering personnel, chemical and process safety, as well as operational conduct. The competition received strong support from site leadership and enthusiastic participation, with nearly 300 employees taking part in the online warm-up quiz, and approximately 100 attending the live event.
In Tianjin (China), the town hall meeting addressed safety topics such as life-saving rules, contractor safety, shuttle bus and forklift procedures, and more. Participants then engaged in games and discussions to share personal experiences and practical tips to enhance the site's safety culture.
The Mumbai (India) office demonstrated a strong commitment to a safe work environment through collaborative activities and engaging events that emphasized the theme "Safety starts with me."
