Nouryon is currently seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist at its Lima, Ohio manufacturing facility - Fort Amanda Specialties. FAS, a joint venture between Nouryon and BASF Corp, are a major producer of chelating agents that are used in a broad range of applications. The FAS site is ISO 9001 and 14001 certified.
Position Purpose:       
Serve as the focal point on all environmental issues and safety programs including security, industrial hygiene, regulatory training, and environmental compliance. 
Principle Accountabilities:
•Develop and execute an improvement plan or contribute to the development of policy, procedures and guidelines across functions, in line with business needs, Site (HSE) strategies and policies, relevant legislation and standards, in order to minimize HSE risks, maximize quality and achieve top quartile safety and operational eco-efficient performance.
•Identifies shortcomings in current processes and procedures from the own discipline and suggests improvements 
Major Contributing Activities:
•Serve as a liaison for external and internal audits, inspections and agencies. Coordinate safety and first aid training to educate employees about safety policies, laws and practices.
•Develop, implement, and administer corporate health and safety policies and procedures.
•Ensure that federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules are observed and adhered to including recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
•Serve as Management Representative for    ISO 14001 programs and all controlled documents that pertain to environmental issues and chemical storage issues; including reports, forms, manifests, waste profiles, analytical and training records.
•Review accident reports to identify patterns of injury and to determine whether unsafe conditions contributed to the accident; advise departments of trends in injuries and proper safety procedures that may result in reduction of injuries; provide departments with information that will aid in reducing accidents and improve safety.
•Coordinate the corporate safety program including monthly safety committee meetings, general awareness, emergency response drills, OSHA compliance and other regulatory compliance.
•Participate in emergency response plans and activities for site and emergency response team.
•Leads small (sub)projects within own discipline with predefined scope and/or participates in larger projects.
•Commitment to health, safety and protection of the environment.
Functional responsibilities
•Represent Fort Amanda Specialties and the interest of our corporate partners, as needed, at local advocacy activities such as LASER, ACECAC, SING, etc.
Identifies position’s primary customers and explains what position can do to help meet customer expectations.
Primary customers include Corporate Partners, Site employees, and Federal, State and local SHE agencies.


Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

Candidates must have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Environmental Science with 3+ years’ experience or a combination of training and experience and is a professional with sufficient knowledge in own specialized field built on an understanding of the theoretical concepts and principles and their context. Knowledge of codes / regulations, chemistry and emergency response is a requirement.  Previous experience in a manufacturing setting required.

In addition, the following are necessary for success in this position:

■Knowledge of environmental codes, regulations, biology/chemistry, and emergency response.

■Demonstrated ability to analyse and evaluate complex environmental issues.

■Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with governmental agencies and plant personnel.

■Is able to explain and convince internal parties about chosen solutions based on content-driven arguments; has contact with internal and/or external parties about issues in own (functional) / relevant discipline(s)

■Demonstrated strong organizational skills.

■Demonstrated commitment to promoting a safe work environment.

■Demonstrated strong communication skills for interacting with all levels of personnel.
