Nouryon has an excellent opportunity for a Controller Investment in Houston, TX.


The Investment Controller oversees the financial and business processes of the investment decision process as well as the reporting process. Verify that capital project economics accurately reflect the specifics of the projects. Support management in investment decision making and forecasting of Investment expenditures. The role works in close cooperation with the Director ISC Finance and VP Engineering.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides financial and business investment progress insights
  • Contributes to investment strategy development and implementation
  • Drives the planning and control cycle and related activities for investment projects
  • Supports investment projects
  • Verifies that capital project economics accurately reflect the specifics of the projects
  • Acts as trusted partner to business stakeholders to drive investment decision-making
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of the (LT) investment strategy for the company
  • Contribute to the investment prioritization framework of the company
  • Prepares and maintains budgeting and rolling forecasts, coordinates the budget/Rolling Forecast process with budget holders related to investment projects
  • Assures adequate internal control for the investment projects and approval process
  • Ensures adequate follow-up on internal and external audits
  • Regular review of completed projects vs (initial) plan and formulate improvement actions
  • Supports investment proposals and projects by providing support and advice
  • Maintains and owns the investments approval and control process in the organization.
  • Participates in or leads projects as project controller
  • Support project control on the sites
  • Provide proactive support and advice to peers and seniors in relation to investment projects and lease vs buy decisions
  • Drives and steers decision making in the investment cycle to improve the (financial) performance
  • Ensures that business decisions are made in line with long term value creation objectives, within the financial and other constraints (such as corporate policy, strategic, operational, legal, social responsibility etc.)
  • Verifies that capital project economics accurately reflect the specifics of the projects


Education & Experience:

  • MSc in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, or similar
  • Must have a good understanding of the finance processes and project control
  • Must have experience working in at least 3 areas in Finance
  • Must have worked in at least 2 parts of this function
  • Must have extensive experience using SAP
  • Must be able to speak English fluently

  • Skilled at finding logical flaws in arguments and plans; identifies problems and solutions that others might miss; provides detailed insight and constructive criticism into problems and complex situations
  • Holding a position that requires understanding the interrelationships among key events by learning how problems fit into the bigger picture and confronting interdepartmental issues. Effectively working and communicating across functional boundaries. Influencing others without authority or direct control
