Senior Process Engineer


Salisbury, NC


This position provides process improvement support for production by analyzing and identifying improvement opportunities and implementing process improvements through projects and/or necessary process changes.



  • Safety-related responsibilities
    • Participates in all aspects of site safety activities including auditing, safety meetings, etc.
    • Supports and helps to maintain PSM process safety information (technology packages)
    • Prepares and maintains batch operating procedures when applicable. Participates in HAZOP’s and safety reviews as instructed.
    • Follows and supports MOC process for temporary and permanent process changes.
  • Recommends, defines, and schedules analysis of systems critical to business goals; collects and analyzes relevant data on selected systems, including maintenance failure information to identify opportunities for equipment reliability improvement.
  • Leads the process improvement review and proposes prioritization of work through risk analysis. 
  • Supports product scale-up as instructed and works closely with the Engineering Technologist and/or others to commercialize products.  Identifies and communicates process improvement goals and objectives with respect to health, safety, and environmental concerns, unit operations, and technical opportunities.  The communications will be both internal and external and may require frequent evaluation and coordination with external technical staff.
  • Works with the AUM/PEM Specialist to ensure the allocation of production gains/losses into the Operations units, Categories, Factors, and Systems in the Asset Utilization Database is accurate. 
  • Evaluates AUM/PEM data and works with the AUM/PEM Specialist to generate specific reports that identify production and consumption performance improvement opportunities to be pursued by other work processes.
  • Establishes the root cause analysis (RCA) level criteria and oversees RCPS for gaps within AUM/PEM identified.
  • Coordinates the integration of statistical process control into processes as appropriate.
  • Identifies the level of RCA to be performed and the Team as appropriate.
  • Interprets production data from any required or available source and assigns opportunity gaps.
  • Support any GMP technical related improvements to support the sites GMP certification for personal care and cosmetic ingredients.
  • Perform engineering and improvement projects as assigned by Manager. Participate in HSES activities directed by management/supervision or as indicated in the HSES Annual Site Plan.
  • Assists and leads, as assigned, Root Cause Analysis projects on site.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the chemical industry
  • 3-5 years acrylate chemistry and polymer chemistry preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Advanced Statistical Analysis
  • Must be able to manage time effectively.
  • Lean / Six Sigma Black or Green Belt preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of traditional unit operations, process equipment, and technology.
  • Ability to review historical records to determine overall work process effectiveness.
  • Ability to reach a conclusion using relevant information and data and to determine the best course of action in a timeframe consistent with business requirements.
  • Ability to organize and lead meetings to achieve desired outcomes and objectives.
  • Ability to analyze competing needs or opportunities and rank them in a relative order of importance with input and guidance from Manager.
  • Ability to access, retrieve, and report historical data in an appropriate format (Example:  plots, graphs, or charts).
  • Ability to lead a team by skillfully managing group discussion, problem solving, and decision making so that these activities yield results supported by the whole team.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to develop clear and logical reports (with supporting information to describe improvement opportunities).
  • Ability to use appropriate statistical methods to analyze data.
