I. Purpose/Key Objectives of the Job
1) Processes – Build line management understanding of Environmental Systems, regulatory changes and support on permitting and changes (20%).
2) Capability: Detailed environmental regulatory expertise in the region (10%).
3) Delivery: Support directly environmental compliance activities at the sites within the region. (50%)
4) Improvement: Act as a role model for compliance and commitment (10%)
5) Strategy: Contribute to the HSE&S and Environmental Strategy (10%)
6) Audit/Global Support: Serve as an internal auditor and incident investigator for the region and globally when applicable
II. Responsibilities
1) Processes – Build line management understanding and compliance to Environmental regulations and systems (20%)
Tasks: Be an influential advisor to line management by building and fostering a deep understanding of the theoretical concepts, regional regulatory requirements and industry standards and best practices focused on Environmental systems.
Results: Environmental regulatory and internal compliance
2) Capability: Leverage Environmental expertise to support all regional sites (10%)
Tasks: Be an effective coach for the all sites by leveraging and extending environmental knowledge through personal engagement.
Results: Environmental knowledge of all sites meets company expectation and can benchmark versus industry leaders.
3) Delivery: Develop and deploy environmental management systems which support the environmental requirements in all sites(50%)
Tasks: Guide line management to implement Environmental Management procedures, templates and tools. This includes future auditing and compliance activities. Take actions to implement consistent tools globally for environmental compliance (regulatory forecasting, regulatory requirements tracking). This will include environmental regulatory update systems, auditing processes and where appropriate modeling systems. Insure consistent tracking per site of all environmental issues, permit activities and compliance to these. Supports with regulatory inquiries and NOV where required.
Results : Established environmental management system
4) Improvement: Act as a role model for compliance and commitment (10%)
Tasks: Spend time engaging with HSES specialists and act as a role model for ensuring compliance with and commitment to the Nouryon HSE Policy, Directives, Rules & Procedures.
Results: Progress towards leading level of HSE maturity and compliance to all regulations
5) Strategy: Contribute to the Environmental strategy(10%)
Tasks: Contribute to the development of the Nouryon environmental strategy. Includes design, deployment and delivery of the Nouryon Environmental management systems.
Results: Global alignment of environmental strategy.
III. Job Requirements
Qualifications/education:
Bachelor, masters or doctorate level qualification in HSE&S or engineering or related discipline or equivalent by experience
10 years experience in the environmental or HSE&S management in a chemicals manufacturing environment. Site based experience important.

Strong strategic and conceptual skills with ability to execute and follow through;
Strong problem solving skills
Positive influencing skills: ability to successfully work and convince others within a matrix organization, gain agreement or acceptance of plans, activities and ability to move others willingly towards a desired goal or course of action;
Ability to drive continuous improvement of the processes, policies, standards;
Able to work in an inclusive way in the HSE&S community
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, entrepreneurship, result oriented, negotiation, problem solving, project management, business acumen;
Very good verbal and written English language skills, and local language
Relevant experience in different multiple units, disciplines, locations and/or other companies
Must be able to travel 25-30% (domestic and international).
Functional skills:
Specialized knowledge of environmental regulations in the region.
Experience in remediation and soil/groundwater is a positive.
