Production Engineer

This position provides support for production activities, including identifying issues and improvement ideas, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, executing improvements, and managing inventories, including process order management.

• HSES-related responsibilities
  • Participates in all aspects of site HSES activities including auditing, safety meetings, hazard recognition, regulatory compliance, etc.
  • Supports and helps maintain PSM process safety information.
  • Prepares and maintains batch operating procedures when needed.  Participates in PHAs and safety reviews as needed.
  • Uses the MOC process for temporary and permanent changes.
• Supports product scale-up and works closely with others to commercialize products.  Identifies and communicates process improvement goals and objectives with respect to health, safety, and environmental concerns, unit operations, and technical opportunities.  The communications will be both internal and external and may require frequent evaluation and coordination with external technical staff.
• Recommends, defines, and schedules analysis of systems critical to business goals; collects and analyzes relevant data on selected systems, including maintenance failure information to identify opportunities for equipment reliability improvement.
• Prioritizes and leads process improvements for assigned areas.  Assists in training of Operators.
• Identifies and addresses quality issues.  Manages non-conforming materials, including root cause, rework, and action items.
• Ensures accurate accounting for production time gains / losses.  Identifies and implements improvements to operational effectiveness and efficiency.
• Monitors process order data and corrects consumption and production postings as needed to ensure financial and inventory accuracy is achieved.  Helps to ensure inventories are accurate for raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.
• Performs troubleshooting to correct issues and to minimize downtime to processes.  Establishes the root cause analysis level criteria and oversees RCPS for identified gaps.
• Coordinates the integration of statistical process control into processes as appropriate.
• Interprets production data from any required or available source and assigns opportunity gaps.

• Support any GMP technical related improvements to support the sites GMP certification for personal care and cosmetic ingredients.

• Perform engineering and improvement projects as assigned by manager.

• Bachelor’s degree in Science related field.
• 3 - 5 years of experience desired.
• Proficient in MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
• Must be able to manage time effectively.
• Lean/Six Sigma Black or Green Belt preferred.
• Thorough understanding of traditional unit operations, process equipment, and technology.
• Ability to review historical records and trends to determine overall work process effectiveness.
• Ability to reach a conclusion using relevant information and data and to determine the best course of action in a timeframe consistent with business requirements.
• Ability to organize and lead meetings to achieve desired outcomes and objectives.
• Ability to analyze competing needs or opportunities and rank them in relative order of importance with input and guidance from the manager.
• Ability to access, retrieve, and report historical data in an appropriate format (Example:  plots, graphs, or charts).
• Ability to lead a team by skillfully managing group discussion, problem-solving, and decision-making so that these activities yield results supported by the whole team.
• Excellent verbal and written skills to develop clear and logical reports (with supporting information to describe improvement opportunities).
• Ability to use appropriate statistical methods to analyze data.
