About the job
The Global Packaging Technologist is the licensor and expertise owner of all related to the product cylinders, from design, to maintenance, to delivery and direct connection to the customers’ installation. This role is therefore essential, not only for design and technical know-how, but also in supporting business to bring the products to the customers.

 

You will work in a team within the Technology Group Polymer Specialties, for the Metal Alkyl and Complex Metal Organics business. The Technology Group Polymer Specialties in Deventer is responsible for process know-how, process design specifications, packaging and label specifications and improvements, implementation of HSE guidelines (process safety) and process optimizations. Special characteristics of the metal alkyl and complex metal organics products require safe and inert delivery method to the customers. In practice the products will need to be packaged and transported in pressure cylinders, specially designed for the products.

 

In your future role as Global Packaging Technologist, you will

Licensing, Know-how, and Engineering:

  • Work with Metal Alkyl and other oxygen and water sensitive products. Metal alkyls are pyrophorics, meaning that it will catch on fire when exposed to air. Metal alkyls are also incompatible (very reactive) with water. Act as project licensor for new fleet builds, defining technical requirements and ensuring adequacy of detailed engineering design and constructions/start up.
  • Keep an up-to-date knowledge of the transport regulation, regarding construction, testing, and transport/shipment of fleet items.
  • Identify methodologies to improve or enhance packaging synergies and standardizations to benefit Nouryon, considering the differences in fleet and regional requirements.
  • Licensor and expertise owner for transport equipment, customer delivery methods, and packaging for Metal Alkyls (MA), and Complex Metal Organics (CMO).
  • Interface with safety lab and regulatory departments to ensure all product safety requirements are met to Nouryon and regulatory satisfaction.
  • Specify and document technical details (drawing) of the product cylinder fleet, contribute to standardization and managing the differences per region.
  • Performs and conducts fleet related benchmarking activities for regionally oriented ISC organization, transfers best practices and drives overall standardization globally.

Business Support:

  • Generate packaging data sheets, technical bulletins and instruction materials for supporting the marketing teams and customers.
  • Provide design recommendations regarding loading facilities and (un)loading procedures to customers. Conduct periodic safety assessments and perform incident response for transportation and customer unloading facilities.
  • Playing an active role in the response on packaging complaints and take initiatives to avoid these by structural improvements and developments.
  • Respond to queries from customers related to packaging, transport and delivery method to customers, which are technical in nature.
  •  Act as technical expert during emergency response in case of incidents/calamities with Metal Alkyl at customers and or during transit to the customers.

 

We believe you bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, higher technical vocational education related to chemical industry or shown proficiency by experience.
  • More than 5 years of experience in chemical industry with technical background.
  • Experience in packaging materials and packaging technology in the field of dangerous goods.

 

Great if you have

  • Metal alkyl handling experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation/ recommendation (ADR, UN orange book, GHS purple Book).
  • Good presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multi-cultural and diverse environments.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Dutch, both spoken and written.
