Nouryon has an outstanding opportunity for an Accounting Specialist Pensions Tax in Houston, TX.


  • Lead the pension accounting for Specialty Chemicals
  • Manage the pension retiree / medical accounting with Towers Watson
  • Liaison between environmental and accounting


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriateness of cost absorption in pension and post-retirement benefits accounts.
  • Produce pension and post-retirement benefits cost experience reports.
  • Serve as a member on the Pension Plan Administrative Committee
  • Ensure appropriateness of environmental costs expensed or charged to provision accounts in Americas companies.
  • Produce detailed reports of environmental spend by project in the Americas companies.
  • Advise and guide engineers in proper accounting coding of various types of environmental spend.
  • Assist with AR composition for environmental spending.
  • Resolve payment issues for environmental costs invoices.
  • Assess legacy matters to determine whether they are appropriate Nouryon costs.
  • Provide guidance for proper accounting coding of legacy matters.
  • Provide replies to auditor inquiries regarding pension, post-retirement benefits, environmental and legacy accounting.
  • Understands and has knowledge of IFRS and FEM
  • Identify opportunities to improve and automate processes and controls and drive continuous improvement
  • Drive changes in policies (e.g. training / SOP / policy / communications)

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and 7+ years of relevant accounting work experience.
  • MBA/CPA preferred
  • Knowledge of direct and indirect Tax required
  • Knowledge in specialized accounting areas such as pensions, retiree / medical, environmental
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and IFRS
  • Experience in SAP; proficient in  Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook); experience with Hyperion Financial Management a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Highly analytical; accurate with an attention to detail
  • Ability to build relationships with customers/stakeholders in a multi-national environment
  • Drive standardization across BUs in the region and guards the integrity and quality of the delivered accounting in the specific area
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and meet strict deadlines and manage pressure. Overtime may be required during month end close, tax deadlines and other critical projects.
