40 years ago, manufacturing started of a revolutionary product – Expancel Microspheres in Sundsvall, Sweden.

Nouryon has completed a €20 million project at Sundsvall, Sweden that significantly raises production capacity for its Expancel expandable microspheres. These are used to enhance the properties of products ranging from shoe soles and food packaging to wind turbines.

Nouryon has launched a new version of its Expancel® expandable microspheres targeted at specialty thin coatings applications. Expandable microspheres work as a filler and blowing agent to make products lighter and reduce overall costs. The new Expancel® Extra Small Microsphere (XSMS) line brings additional benefits to specialty thin coatings applications, such as improving the printability of thermal paper labels, tickets and receipts, as well as filling and upgrading genuine or artificial leather without sacrificing volume.

We have signed an agreement with Renewcell to provide specialty chemicals and engineering solutions for its new textile recycling plant in Sundsvall, Sweden. The facility will recycle textile waste, including items such as worn-out jeans and production scraps, to manufacture 60,000 metric tons of Circulose® dissolving pulp per year.
