Mechanical Integrity Engineer

At Nouryon, our global team takes positive action every day, to reach higher collectively and individually. We create innovative and sustainable solutions for our customers to answer society’s needs – today and in the future.

We are looking for team members who bring ideas forward, champion others and work together to do better. Does that sound like you?

About the job

The Mechanical Integrity Engineer (MI) is responsible for ensuring the mechanical integrity, reliability, and availability of fixed assets across a specialty chemical manufacturing site. This role drives compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM), implements risk-based inspection (RBI) programs, leads failure elimination initiatives, and develops asset strategies that improve safety, quality, and total cost of ownership. The ideal candidate blends strong technical judgment with frontline engagement, data-driven decision-making, and disciplined execution.

In your future role as Mechanical Integrity Engineer you will

  • Own and drive the site's Mechanical Integrity program in full compliance with OSHA PSM requirements (29 CFR 1910.119)
  • Establish and manage inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance (ITPM) programs for pressure vessels, storage tanks, piping systems, relief devices, and rotating equipment
  • Lead root cause failure analyses (RCFA) for equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurring issues
  • Evaluate inspection data and fitness-for-service assessments to determine equipment integrity, remaining life, and required interventions
  • Manage the Management of Change (MOC) process for mechanical system modifications and provide technical support during plant turnarounds and shutdowns
  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as equipment reliability, inspection compliance, and failure rates

We believe you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (Materials, Reliability, or Chemical Engineering with an MI focus)
  • Extensive experience in manufacturing environments (5–10 years), with deep knowledge of PSM and mechanical integrity programs
  • Proven expertise in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 compliance, RAGAGEP, and API industry standards
  • Proficiency in root cause failure analysis methodologies (RCFA) and fitness-for-service assessments

Great if you have

  • API 510/570/653 certification
  • Familiarity with PHA/LOPA, relief system design/verification, and specialty chemicals unit operations (batch reactors, distillation, filtration, crystallization)
  • Experience implementing RBI software and building MI dashboards
