About the job

The Production Engineer will assist the Production Superintendent within assigned unit operations with continuous improvement, maintenance planning in production area, and adherence to site KPI’s. The role will also oversee production areas in maintaining safety and environmental aspects.


In your future role as Production Engineer, you will

  • Be responsible for efficient operation with a continuous improvement program using statistically designed experiments, six sigma, and other methods as required. Elements of continuous improvement include reducing operating costs, increasing product quality and capacities, and improving safety and environmental performance.
  • Coordinate maintenance and provide projects within production area.
  • Perform general monitoring of and improvements to the DCS and operations in the plant.
  • Utilize technical background to evaluate plant operations and watch for any signs of problems. Assist the Production Superintendent in resolving plant problems.
  • Maintain the change logs (MOC) for the plant, documenting key items of interest in the areas of safety, environmental compliance, quality, operating efficiency, maintenance, and projects.
  • Coordinate all major plant shutdowns/turnarounds within assigned unit.
  • Coordinate with the Production Superintendent and Maintenance to ensure proper scheduling and personnel utilization.
  • Projects requiring immediate action will be initiated by the Production Engineer to maintain operations. The Production Engineer is responsible for some capital projects and will serve as the plant’s liaison for capital projects coordinated within the plant by outside personnel.
  • Participate in on-call support.
  • Observe site for potential intruders, trespassers, or other non-authorized persons, reporting suspicious items, persons or activities.
  • Participate in all plant safety processes and compliance with Life Saving Rules.


HSE-Specific Duties

  • Understand and help implement the Houston Plant Safety policies and objectives.
  • Be aware of potential health, safety, security, and environmental impacts in your area of responsibility and the consequences if an upset occurs.
  • Understand and implement any parts of the Houston Plant Environmental Compliance Plan and Waste Management Plan that apply to your area of responsibility.
  • Participate in the site's on-going Pollution Prevention Process.


We believe you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in engineering, plant operations, or a technical field within a PSM (Process Safety Management) site.
  • Proven experience in process optimization, utilizing statistical methods, such as six sigma.
  • Proficiency in monitoring and improving Distributed Control Systems (DCS) in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical background with the ability to identify and address operational issues.
  • Familiarity with maintaining change logs (MOC) for safety, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Experience coordinating plant shutdowns/turnarounds and managing personnel scheduling.
  • Ability to initiate and manage projects, including capital projects, with effective communication skills for liaison with external personnel.
  • Availability for on-call support and participation in plant safety processes.
  • Vigilance in observing and reporting unauthorized individuals or suspicious activities on site.

This is a permanent position on a full-time basis, reporting to the Production Superintendent at our site in Houston, TX.
